Member Development Director Job Description
General
Description: The Member Development Director (MDD) supports the
development, maintenance, and administration of programs that will help to
attract, maintain, nurture, and develop members of the church. The MDD is
supervised by the Minister. S/he works
with other paid staff (including the RE Director and the Church Administrator)
and volunteers.
Expected
Education & Experiences. This
individual should have:
·
a background in human resource development,
education, and/or counseling.
·
a bachelor’s (master’s preferred) degree in the
social sciences.
·
understanding of UU principles and practices.
·
the ability to work with all persons,
regardless of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, family
structure, national origin, age, disability and economic status
·
the ability to work with a multi-faceted
ministerial team.
Duties:
A. Work with
Minister, the Team Leader of Member Ministry, and the Member Ministry
Team to develop, coordinate and administer adult programs for member
development which support:
1. hospitality and outreach to
visitors and friends;
2. attracting new members, and integrating them
into the life of the church;
3. spiritual development of
adult church members, friends, and visitors;
4. targeted groups of the church
community (e.g. elders, young adults, jobless);
5. the care of members.
B. Attend at least
2 Sunday Services a month. Greet visitors, active members and friends. Be aware
of interests and abilities of members.
C.
Attend staff, Council, and Member Ministry
meetings.
D. Work with Member
Ministry Leader and Nominating Committee to identify, develop, and recruit lay
leaders.
E. Administrative
tasks include
F. Oversee
communication with visitors, members, and friends, including
1. The
communication of member needs to congregation and/or to appropriate ministry
group.
2. Answering
inquiries about First U and/or Unitarian Universalism.
3. Working
with the Church Administrator to update electronic communication tools,
including yahoo groups.
4. Assisting
the Church Administrator to recruit and train office volunteers.
5. Writing
articles for the newsletter, as needed.
G. Other duties as
appropriate, and as time permits.
