Women's Alliance

logo

The mission of the Women's Alliance of the First Unitarian Church is to advocate for issues related to women and to work together on these issues in conjunction with the Unitarian Universalist Women's Foundation.

We do this by first creating a climate for its members that promotes physical and emotional self-care: by nurturing supportive and meaningful relationships among its members, and by supporting each member's pursuit to living a balanced life.

As voted on by members at our General Meeting on April 10th, this year the Alliance has decided to "shower " the HELP Office with our support and good wishes by donating gift items and financial assistance. You are invited to the Shower at Linda Parry's home --- to partake in sisterhood and conversation while sharing a pot luck meal together, and admiring our bounty of gifts given to help those in need. Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m at Linda Parry's. Bring a pot luck dish to share and a gift of your choice for the HELP Office. See the wish list sent to us by the Director, Sharon Eckler. Please contact Kathy Thackeray at womensalliance@firstulou.org for more information.

The Women's Alliance Program 2009 - 2010

Program opportunities are organized under four areas of interest:
Outreach
Sistership
Spirituality and Education
Service to First Unitarian

Outreach:

  • Louisville Library Flood Recovery
The Alliance contributed $200.00 to the Louisville Free Public Library Flood Recovery Fund.
UPDATE: The Alliance received a very nice letter from our neighbor, The Main Louisville Free Public Library thanking the Women's Alliance for our donation to help with Flood Damage.
  • Angel Tree
The Alliance will offer the opportunity for members of the Alliance and of First Unitarian to sponsor a boy and girl from Kentucky and Indiana in the Angel Tree Program. The Women's Alliance asks the entire congregation to donate to make a nice Christmas for four children/youth from Kentucky and Indiana. A poster in the Social Hall with four angels has instructions for making a donation. Thank you.

  • Sponsor Partner Church Child
The Steering Committee will form a team to research sending a partner church child to school.

  • Sponsor an Escort
The Alliance will sponsor an EsCORT to attend the Kentucky Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.

Sistership:

  • Trips/Outings to Museum(s) and Garden(s)

  • "Social Action Shower"
We will have a "shower" to which all women of the church will be invited and requested to bring a gift to be donated through a service organization that serves women.

  • Lunch Bunch
Once a month lunch at a restaurant. The Lunch/Brunch Bunch is being led this Church Year by Holly Hogue. One month we go to Lunch during the week and the next month we go to Brunch on a Saturday morning. This seems to allow the most women to experience these events. In October we went to Cunningham's for Lunch and in November we went to Brunch at Buckhead's on the River. All women of First Unitarian are invited to be a Lunch/Brunch Buncher.

UPDATE: We had a wonderful Women's Retreat on the weekend of November 6, 7, and 8, 2009. It was a beautiful weekend in every way, the weather, the crafts, the walks, the workshops, the food, the singing, the drumming and all the sistership. We thank the great planning committee! Our next Women's Retreat will be during the spring of 2011.
  • Update Alliance Directory

  • Membership Meetings
